Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240g) sourdough starter, unfed
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the sourdough starter, softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until well combined.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the baking soda, salt, and flour.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
  9. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Make sure your sourdough starter is at room temperature for best results.
  • For a twist, you can add nuts or dried fruits to the cookie dough.
