Ingredients
Scale
- 4–5 pounds beef brisket
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Remove the brisket from the skillet and place it in the slow cooker.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix together beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt, thyme, and mustard powder.
- Pour the mixture over the brisket in the slow cooker, then add the sautéed onion and garlic on top.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, until the brisket is tender.
- Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Serve with the juices from the slow cooker.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can marinate the brisket overnight in the seasoning mix before cooking.
- Serve with your favorite sides like mashed potatoes or coleslaw.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
