  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  2. Remove the brisket from the skillet and place it in the slow cooker.
  3. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix together beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt, thyme, and mustard powder.
  5. Pour the mixture over the brisket in the slow cooker, then add the sautéed onion and garlic on top.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, until the brisket is tender.
  7. Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Serve with the juices from the slow cooker.
