Description
Mastering the art of cooking beef brisket can elevate your culinary skills and impress your guests. Follow these expert tips for perfectly tender and flavorful results.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole beef brisket (5–6 pounds)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Trim excess fat from the brisket, leaving about 1/4 inch of fat on the surface.
- In a small bowl, mix salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub this spice mixture all over the brisket.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Place the brisket in a roasting pan or Dutch oven. Pour beef broth around the brisket (and barbecue sauce if using).
- Cover the pan tightly with foil or a lid and place it in the preheated oven.
- Cook the brisket for 4-5 hours, or until it is fork-tender. Check every hour, adding more broth if necessary to keep it moist.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before slicing against the grain.
Notes
- Allowing the brisket to rest after cooking is crucial for juicy results.
- For added flavor, marinate the brisket overnight with the spice rub.
- Using a meat thermometer can help ensure that the brisket reaches the perfect internal temperature of around 195°F to 205°F (90°C to 96°C).
- Brisket can also be cooked in a slow cooker or on a smoker for different flavor profiles.
