A delicious and creamy green bean casserole topped with crispy fried onions, perfect for holiday gatherings and family dinners.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot of boiling water, blanch the green beans for about 5 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  4. Add the blanched green beans to the soup mixture and stir until the beans are fully coated.
  5. If using, mix in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Gently fold in 1 cup of the crispy fried onions, reserving the remaining 1/2 cup for topping.
  7. Transfer the green bean mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the reserved fried onions on top.
  10. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
  11. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a healthier version, you can use reduced-fat cream of mushroom soup and low-fat milk.
  • Feel free to add cooked bacon or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor.
