  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

Enjoy deliciously crispy fried cod fish, perfect for a seafood delight. This recipe will guide you to create golden-brown fillets that are tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cod fillets (about 6 ounces each)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Pour the buttermilk into another bowl.
  3. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dip each cod fillet into the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off.
  5. Then dredge the fillet in the flour mixture, ensuring it is well-coated.
  6. Carefully place the coated fillets into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  7. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove the fried cod and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve hot with lemon wedges or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For an extra crispy coating, double dip the fillets in buttermilk and flour mixture.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before adding the fish to prevent sogginess.
  • You can add spices or herbs to the flour mixture for additional flavor.
