- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- Fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Once the cakes are cool, place one layer on a serving platter. Spread a layer of whipped cream on top.
- Add the second layer of cake on top, and spread the remaining whipped cream over the top and sides of the cake.
- Arrange the sliced strawberries in rows to create stripes and place blueberries in the top left corner to create the stars.
- Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can use store-bought whipped cream for convenience.
- Feel free to substitute other berries if desired.
