Ingredients
Scale
- 4–5 pounds beef brisket
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- 1. Start by seasoning the brisket generously with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and thyme.
- 2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on all sides until browned. This will help lock in the flavors.
- 3. In the crockpot, add sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom. Place the seared brisket on top.
- 4. In a separate bowl, mix together beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Pour this mixture over the brisket in the crockpot.
- 5. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, until the brisket is fork-tender.
- 6. Once cooked, remove the brisket and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing against the grain. Serve with the sauce from the crockpot.
Notes
- For best results, use a well-marbled brisket for maximum tenderness.
- You can add vegetables like carrots and potatoes to the crockpot for a complete meal.
- Allowing the brisket to rest before slicing helps retain its juices.
