Description
This light and fluffy Angel Food Cake is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. Made with just a few simple ingredients, it’s a delightful treat that pairs wonderfully with fresh fruit and whipped cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (120g) cake flour, sifted
- 1 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar, divided
- 12 large egg whites, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Have an ungreased 10-inch tube pan ready.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cake flour and 3/4 cup of the granulated sugar. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer on medium speed until frothy.
- Add the cream of tartar and salt, and continue to beat until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the remaining 3/4 cup of sugar, about 2 tablespoons at a time, beating on high speed until stiff, glossy peaks form.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix until incorporated.
- Sift the flour mixture over the egg whites in three additions, gently folding it in with a spatula after each addition until just combined. Be careful not to deflate the egg whites.
- Pour the batter into the prepared tube pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and springs back when lightly pressed.
- Remove the cake from the oven and immediately invert the pan onto a wire rack. Let it cool completely upside down.
- Once cooled, run a knife around the edges of the pan to release the cake. Invert onto a serving plate.
Notes
- Make sure your mixing bowl and beaters are completely clean and free of grease for the best volume in the egg whites.
- You can serve this cake plain, with a dusting of powdered sugar, or topped with fresh berries and whipped cream.
