Enjoy crispy and delicious fish and chips made healthier in the air fryer. This easy recipe gives you a classic British dish with less oil, making it a perfect weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 white fish fillets (cod, haddock, or your choice)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup water (cold)
  • 2 potatoes (large, cut into fries)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • for serving lemon wedges
  • for serving tartar sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  3. Gradually whisk in the cold water until you achieve a smooth batter.
  4. Dip each fish fillet into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.
  5. Place the battered fish in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Spray lightly with cooking spray.
  6. Air fry the fish for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  7. While the fish is cooking, toss the cut potatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  8. Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket after the fish is done, and air fry for 15-18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  9. Once everything is cooked, serve the fish and chips hot with lemon wedges and tartar sauce.

Notes

  • You can substitute the white fish with any firm white fish.
  • For extra flavor, marinate the fish in lemon juice and herbs for 30 minutes before battering.
  • Adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of the fish fillets.
