Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased 7-inch round cake pan that fits in your air fryer.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for about 5 minutes.
  7. Place the cake pan in the air fryer basket and cook for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Once done, remove the pan from the air fryer and let it cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add chocolate chips to the batter before cooking.
