Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Royal icing ingredients: 4 cups powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons meringue powder, 6 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light.
  4. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix well.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients.
  6. Chill the dough for 30 minutes.
  7. Roll out the dough and cut out cookie shapes.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden.
  9. Let cookies cool completely before icing.
  10. To make royal icing, mix powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until smooth.
  11. Decorate cookies with royal icing as desired.
