Description
This stuffing recipe is a Thanksgiving classic! Made with simple ingredients like bread, celery, onion, and herbs, it’s the perfect side dish for any holiday meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf Bread (day-old white bread, cubed)
- 1/2 cup Butter (unsalted)
- 2 cups Celery (diced)
- 1 cup Onion (diced)
- 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
- 2 tablespoons Fresh Sage (chopped)
- 2 tablespoons Fresh Thyme (chopped)
- 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley (chopped)
- 2–3 cups Chicken Broth (or vegetable broth)
- 1 Egg (large, beaten (optional))
- 1 teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper (or to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add celery and onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, cooked celery and onion mixture, sage, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper. If using, add the beaten egg.
- Gradually add the chicken broth, tossing to moisten the bread. Add enough broth to make the stuffing moist but not soggy.
- Pour the stuffing into the prepared baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a crispier stuffing, spread it out in a thinner layer in the baking dish. You can also add sausage, dried cranberries, or nuts for added flavor and texture. Adjust the amount of herbs to your preference.
