  • 1/2 cup Butter (unsalted)
  • 2 cups Celery (diced)
  • 1 cup Onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Sage (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Thyme (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley (chopped)
  • 23 cups Chicken Broth (or vegetable broth)
  • 1 Egg (large, beaten (optional))
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add celery and onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, cooked celery and onion mixture, sage, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper. If using, add the beaten egg.
  4. Gradually add the chicken broth, tossing to moisten the bread. Add enough broth to make the stuffing moist but not soggy.
  5. Pour the stuffing into the prepared baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  6. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a crispier stuffing, spread it out in a thinner layer in the baking dish. You can also add sausage, dried cranberries, or nuts for added flavor and texture. Adjust the amount of herbs to your preference.
